Prototype Development
“Chhogori Designs is a prototyping business, and the stuff people see are solutions, not products.”
— Feeding the Rat Expeditions
This approach reflects how we operate day-to-day. Every prototype begins with a problem: environmental exposure, load management, material failure, integration with existing systems, or the limits of off-the-shelf equipment. The outcome is a one-off or small-run build, refined through iteration and field use.
What We Prototype
Prototype projects commonly include:
Expedition backpacks and load-carrying systems
Custom duffels, haul systems, and logistics bags
Integrated textile and machined components
Suspension systems and structural elements
One-off problem-solving builds for specific objectives
Many of these projects never become “products” in the traditional sense. They exist to solve a specific problem, support a specific expedition, or test an idea under real conditions.
Custom Prototyping Process
Custom prototyping projects are coordinated via direct contact and follow the following staged process:
Enquiry
Initial contact outlining your concept, problem, or requirement.Feasibility + Rough Quote
Assessment of technical feasibility and an indicative cost range.Design Consultancy — $100 AUD
A design consultancy fee may apply to larger or more complex projects.
This does not usually apply to small goods.Digital Mock-ups
Concept development and digital mock-ups to refine form, materials, and function.Final Quote + 50% Deposit
A final quote is issued once the design is agreed. Production begins after receipt of a 50% deposit.Production
Fabrication, assembly, and internal testing.Photos → Final Payment → Shipping
Final build documentation is shared, remaining payment is completed, and the prototype is shipped.
Who This Work Is For
Our prototyping work is suited to:
Expedition teams and guides
Climbers with non-standard requirements
Designers or brands seeking proof-of-concept builds
Climbers needing solutions where existing equipment falls short
If your project requires flexibility, iteration, and a willingness to test ideas in real conditions, this process is likely a good fit.
